The Resort
Our friends at the award-winning Kicking Horse Mountain Resort make us a little jealous – they get to play in the coolest backyard on the planet!

An inside perspective on the resort
This resort is making some waves in the skiing world for one reason only: the terrain.

The three bowls and two intersecting ridges that make-up the in-bounds alpine skiing are picture perfect. Both ridges have tons of tough long couloirs on the north-west side and steep open trees on the north-east side with a wide open bowl running down the middle. Once you hit tree-line it is a great mix of fast groomers and punishing mogul fields that will keep you turning all the way to the bottom. The lift access is spectacular if you have legs to ski all 4000 feet of vertical each lap, there’s not even enough time to rest on the gondola and you are back up on top. Golden tends to get a lot of sunshine and if it’s a warm day in the alpine, the Stairway chair’s southern exposure is a great place to work on your tan.

The icing on the cake at KHMR is the Eagle’s Eye Restaurant up top. There is a reason why it continually wins awards. The view is absolutely jaw dropping and somehow the atmosphere seems to make the beer taste better. With the expansion in the base area bringing a nice variety of shops and restaurants, the resort is developing quickly. KHMR is definitely ready for the world’s skiers, but are they ready for "the Horse."
